10 speed transmission tuning, Here's where I'm at so far

posted on

Doing my 1AM report for everyone on this 10 speed transmission tuning stuff.

Here's where I'm at so far:

We've discovered a revision that needs to be made in my ECM tune that Motorops sent me with my TCM file. Not a big issue, but it does need corrected, and they are already on it. - This is why it's important to review data.

All of the PPEI Early Lockup TCM tune was logged using this new updated ECM file that is going to get changed. I'm going to have to redo this possibly to make sure I'm reporting accurate data to everyone.

Guys I'm sure are dying to hear the results, however I can't give anything out yet without everyone involved seeing the data and a chance to make adjustments.

Tonight I switched my ECM file back to my original tune from Motorops that I've had on the truck for tens of thousands of miles that I've been happy with overall. I then loaded in the VSE firm shift file, did a quick learn, then ran it through several drive cycles until it cleared up and happy. Different acceleration/throttle/load rates through the gears definitely speeds up the learning process.

I logged several pulls and have forwarded them to Tom to review and make changes as he sees fit based on the logs.

I've got to send over logs to PPEI as well for them to review and revise as they see fit.

I'm holding off logging the Motorops files until the ECM file is revised as they said they're going to send me an updated TCM file anyways.

There's a lot of work going into this. I'm not leaving any stone unturned.

I've officially driven all 3 companies transmission files (at least 1 of each) and I can say they're all COMPLETELY different. From the way they shift, to the speed they shift, the firmness in which they shift, how they hold gears out, how they navigate Tow Haul mode... How and when converter locks up. I honestly expected them to be closer to each other in terms of how they shift. I couldn't have been further off.

Keep watching. I'll start putting data out when I feel comfortable with releasing repeatable data all using the same tune power level.

I've been doing my logging in tune "3" and tune "5".

Tune 3 has been a great all around tune the truck likes. It's the one it's in 90% of the time unless I'm loaded heavy. Tune 5 is the max effort tune which definitely pushes the limits of tunes I'm comfortable with on this thing. I don't run it like ever. Boost pressure is high and super high fueling rates. It's their max effort tune for a reason.
